Sumiller is a great red wine aged in oak barrels, which brings out the indigenous grape variety Prieto Picudo’s full potential.
If you are thinking on buying a picudo prieto wine, you will like to know that each bottle of Pincerna Sumiller contains the wisdom of 100 year old vineyards, with aromas of youth. 25% of the grapes that make Pincerna Sumiller come from very old vines, around 100 years old. The rest come from 25-30 year old vines. The old vineyard represents the earth, that unique touch, and the young vineyard provides the aromatic fraction. To age this prieto picudo wine from León, two different types of oak have been carefully selected, to provide greater complexity. After a period of between five to seven months in the barrels, the wine is bottled, and rests for some time before it is released to the market.
Pincerna Sumiller is a great wine that stands out for its burgundy red color and is perfect to drink with cured cheeses, veal, pork, roast chicken or pasta. This prieto picudo red is undoubtedly the flagship wine of Bodegas Pincerna that, surely, the medieval ‘pincernas’ would have served their lords to satisfy them.
